My name is Teresa Garner and I am the current Presiding Member (chairperson) of the Avalon Intermediate board. As a board we oversee the governance of our kura and work closely with Mrs Te Whetu to make sure we are providing the best learning environments, opportunities and supporting all students to our best ability. As the Presiding member it is my role to lead the board and be part of leading the direction of our kura. I am also on the Taita College Board and the NZSTA regional Executive Board.
I joined the board 4 years ago when my eldest daughter attended Avalon Intermediate, and my youngest will be here in a couple years. I am really enthusiastic about Avalon Intermediate and believe we have a fantastic community. Our staff and senior leadership team are passionate about providing an excellent education that offers a variety of opportunities. I am proud to be a part of this through my position on the board.
On a personal note, as I mentioned above, I have 2 wonderful daughters. I live locally in Stokes valley with my husband and children and am often out in the community supporting my children with their sporting, schooling and extra-curricular activities.
Please feel free to get in contact with me if you ever have anything you wish to discuss, you contact me at teresag@avalonintermediate.school.nz You are also welcome to attend our board meetings as these are open to the public – times and dates can be found on our school website.
Ngā mihi nui,
Teresa.
Donna Overduin - Parent Rep
My name is Donna Overduin and I am a parent of the Avalon Intermediate Board. I joined the Board in August 2022 and I must say it’s been a learning curve but also an interesting experience and thoroughly enjoying it. We are really keen to ensure that all our students at Avalon are achieving well and this includes making sure that the Principal and staff are well supported and resourced. Still a lot of learning but I love every minute of it, and the Board members are a nice bunch of ladies.
I have one daughter who is at Avalon Intermediate (Year 8) and we live in Stokes Valley with my partner Terry and our two cats (Pepper and Onyx). We are very busy with our daughter’s sporting and extra curricular activies which she does and enjoy supporting her and encouraging her and we also have our own activities. I enjoy playing netball (indoor and out) and Terry loves fishing. We are very family orientated and the weekends is spending time with friends, family and just relaxing.

Stacey Walker - Parent Representative

I was born in Masterton, Wairarapa and moved to Pomare in 1990. I also lived in Christchurch in 2003 -2004. My daughter is a year 8 here at AIS. I joined the Board beause I wanted to be part of a team that helps the children and the staff in their learning and workspaces. I like being on the Board because I enjoy the team and know that I am helping in some small way. I really like the way the students and the staff work together at AIS. They all come together and help like a family unit.
