NAU MAI, HAERE MAI - WELCOME TO AVALON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
KA MAHI TAHI TĀTOU, KA TAUA TĀTOU
Working as one, so we all succeed
New Vision and Values
In 2020 we spent a lot of time talking and listening with students, families and staff about what is important at our school. We asked those in our learning community to share values that are important to them, and to talk about what we want for our school in the future.
Our new vision is KA MAHI TAHI TĀTOU, KA TAUA TĀTOU - Working as one, so we all succeed. Success at school is not limited to academic ability, it is different for every learner but it is our role as a school to provide the right culture, resources and support to help our tauira to be confident and successful learners. We know that our teaching and learning goes both ways and that our teaching staff have so much they can learn from our students and whanau, which is why our whakatauki applies to everyone in our learning community.
Ngā tikanga, the values that underpin the way that our school works have also been updated:
KAITIAKITANGA - Guardianship
MANAAKITANGA - Kindness
WHANAUNGATANGA - Connection
MAURI ORA - Wellbeing
Our students are currently creating a new music video to explain the meaning behind our new vision and how our values connect to our school and learners which we look forward to sharing soon. They will also be helping to design signage around our school to promote and celebrate our tikanga.Thank you to everyone who contributed to the review of vision and values at Avalon Intermediate and Matua Mike (Wallace) for helping to bring it all together.
