NUMERACY

Numeracy or Mathematics learning has a high priority at AIS. The students are taught in small groups which means their specific learning needs are met. This also means there are many opportunities for them to ask questions, manipulate materials, practise new skills and show their new understandings.

We deliberately spend a lot of time teaching Number, which includes addition and subtraction. multiplication and division, fractions, decimals and proportions, as these are the basic skills needed to be successful in other areas of maths. Within our two-year plan we include the other strands of Algebra, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics. Students experience a range of learning contexts, including text books, word problems, real life situations and all students have access to Mathletics.
